Our Curriculum Approach
At Marlborough School, we follow a mastery approach to mathematics, designed to ensure that every child achieves success. Learning is carefully sequenced in small steps, allowing all children to build deep understanding and make meaningful connections in their maths learning.
Our aim is to develop confident, resilient mathematicians who enjoy the subject and can apply their knowledge fluently and flexibly. We focus on three key strands: fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving, helping children to know more, remember more, and do more with their mathematical knowledge.
Our curriculum is based on the NCETM Curriculum Pathway, supported by resources from Oak National Academy. This ensures a carefully structured progression from Reception through to Year 6, with learning revisited and built upon year by year. Children are encouraged to use concrete resources, visual models, and precise mathematical language to deepen their understanding.
